RUTHVEN, Iowa ( KUOO ) - An Estherville, Iowa woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to charges related to a hit-and-run incident in Ruthven last year.

Twenty-three-year-old Laticia Whiting is sentenced to 60 days in jail and must serve probation.

On June 9, 2024, a 5-year-old girl was riding a bike in Ruthven when she was hit by a vehicle. That vehicle, driven by Whiting, left the scene after injuring the child.

Whiting was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury, open container, failure to provide proof of insurance and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Whiting pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and causing serious injury by a motor vehicle.
