WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Westfield police have issued a warning to parents and guardians following a rise in complaints about children riding electronic bikes and scooters recklessly on local streets.

The police department sent out a letter detailing concerns about unsafe riding practices, including exceeding speed limits and riding in prohibited areas. This move comes as officers have received an increasing number of calls about these issues, prompting them to remind families of the relevant laws and regulations.

"There's laws that govern all of these things, so the laws can be enforced, bicycles or motorcycles can be towed, they can be fined or charged even criminally in some cases," said Westfield Police Captain Eric Hall.
