EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — After a contentious city commission meeting that lasted over three hours, East Grand Rapids has approved a development plan for Gaslight Village.
East Grand Rapids City Commissioners Monday night narrowly passed the first round of approvals of a controversial project that would completely change the look of Gaslight Village.
The city commission voted on the concept plan for Gaslight Village, which included several amendments from a previous plan agreed upon between the city and Gaslight Investors, LLC.
After extensive public comment ahead of the agenda item, the city commission voted 4-3 to approve the plan. The vote came despite a protest petition that was submitted just over an hour before the meeting started.
