JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) - A heavily used bridge is closed to traffic until further notice.
Drivers on their regular routine have been forced to turn around when met with a barricade.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Tuesday the bridge on Route 321 near the Route 1107 intersection close to Paintsville would be closing.
They say a recent inspection revealed concerns with its substructure, and the call was made to close the bridge to all traffic out of an abundance of caution.
A statement from the cabinet says they appreciate the public’s patience as engineers will be assessing the situation and determining necessary repairs.
There’s no word on when the bridge may reopen.
Close to 5,000 drivers a day use the bridge. They’re now forced to use alternate routes.
