New Delhi: Sheetal Devi scripted history at the recently concluded Para Archery World Championships 2025 as she clinched India’s first-ever gold medal in an individual event at the competition. The 18-year-old armless archer won a gold medal in the women’s compound individual category to become India’s first individual medallist at the Para Archery World Championships.

Sheetal defeated Türkiye’s world no.1 Oznur Cure Girdi 146-143 in a thrilling final to finish on top of the podium and become a world champion at 18. The Indian para archer, who shoots using her feet, chin and mouth, was the only armless archer at the competition and bagged the elusive gold, showcasing her determination and perseverance.
