Sep 28, 2025; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (8) rolls out to pass during the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Lamar Jackson's been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL over the last two seasons.

In Week 5, Baltimore Ravens fans got a look at life without the two-time MVP: a 44-10 loss at home to the Houston Texans. That margin of defeat was larger than the combined total of their six losses from the 2024 regular season and playoffs (24 points).

Jackson suffered a hamstring injury in a Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. With him sidelined, Baltimore went to backup Cooper Rush.

The former Dallas Cowboys backup completed 14 of 20 passes against Houston for 179 yards and three interceptions. It's just the third time a Ravens quarterback has thrown three or more interceptions in a game (playoffs or regular season) since Jackson became the starter in 2019.

Baltimore sits at 1-4 with diminishing playoff hopes. They're at home again this week against a Los Angeles Rams team with extra rest thanks to the "Thursday Night Football" game versus the 49ers in Week 5.

Can Ravens fans expect Jackson back in the lineup? Here's what we know about his status.

Lamar Jackson injury update

Jackson did not practice today in the Ravens' first session of the week, per The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec. He was one of five starters to not practice, joining fullback Patrick Ricard, linebacker Roquan Smith and cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Chidobe Awuzie.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said there was no change to Jackson's status this week. He was expected to miss two to three weeks with the hamstring injury when first diagnosed and that timeline puts him back on the field for the Ravens' game against the Chicago Bears in Week 8.

Baltimore has not put him on injured reserve (IR), which would require him to miss at least four weeks. That lack of movement is promising for his return on that original timetable.

The Ravens host the Rams this week before taking their bye in Week 7.

Ravens QB depth chart

  • Lamar Jackson (injured)
  • Cooper Rush
  • Tyler Huntley (practice squad)

Rush spent seven seasons with the Cowboys before joining the Ravens in 2025. He started eight games for Dallas last season after starter Dak Prescott's injury and went 4-4 as a starter. In 14 total starts for the Cowboys, Rush posted a 9-5 record.

Huntley spent the first four years of his career with Baltimore (2020-23) before spending the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins. He started five games for Miami and went 2-3 in place of starter Tua Tagovailoa. He was on the Cleveland Browns' roster during training camp before being cut and returning to Baltimore. He's started nine games for the Ravens in his career and gone 3-6 as a starter.
