ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4)—When someone is in a crisis, every second counts and every word matters. With many mental health crisis calls on the rise, first responders are adding more to their toolkit.

Crisis intervention training on Wednesday brought together six different departments, including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Jefferson County, St. Charles County, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the FBI, to train on the Veterans Memorial Bridge.

St. Charles County detective Joe Strehl said there’s been an uptick in people jumping off bridges in an attempt to end their lives.

“We’re training for all different scenarios. Whether a person just got divorced, went through a break up, lost their job or its a veteran in crisis,” Strehl said.
