The Montreal Canadiens begin their quest to prove last spring’s playoff berth wasn’t a fluke with an intra-divisional season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena.

It’s the Canadiens’ 116th season.

The Habs begin the season with three games on the road: tonight in Toronto, tomorrow in Detroit and Saturday in Chicago.

According to NHL PR, this is the sixth straight season the Leafs and Habs will open their seasons against each other, and the 23rd time overall.

Sam Montembeault will start in goal. He had a 31-24-7 record a year ago.

Joe Veleno and Jayden Struble are tonight’s scratches.

The Canadiens struggled out of the gate a season ago, with a 4–6–1 record in October.
