ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- City and school officials are teaming up to deliver a message to students and the public that drivers, pedestrians and bicycle, scooter, and e-bike riders all share responsibility for sharing the road and keeping each other safe.

The messaging follows three recent collisions in the city involving cars and school-age bicycle and scooter riders.

The accidents occurred in late September and early October.

That number is “really unusual,” Police Chief George Lichman said. The city often has only one such accident per year, he said.

The City of Rocky River sent out a ReadyNotify message by email and text Oct. 7 to inform city residents of the problem and urge them to exercise caution.
