TOWANDA, Kan. (KSNW) — A boil water advisory has been issued for Towanda in Butler County due to a waterline break that caused a loss of pressure, increasing the risk of bacterial contamination.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says that users of the Towanda public water supply should take the following precautions: • Boil water for at least one minute before drinking or cooking, or use bottled water. • Do not use ice made from tap water. • If tap water appears dirty, run the tap until it clears. • Disinfect dishes and food surfaces by soaking them in water mixed with one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon for at least one minute. • Bathing water does not need to be boiled, but supervise children to prevent ingestion.
