A manhunt is currently in progress following a fatal shooting in north-west Sydney. Police have confirmed that two vehicles found on fire are connected to the incident. The victim, Suman Mokhtarian, was discovered with gunshot wounds on Annaluke Street in Riverstone around 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly after the shooting, firefighters responded to a blaze on Riverstone Road, where they found a red Audi engulfed in flames. Police later identified a white van also ablaze on nearby Matthias Street. Both vehicles were completely destroyed, prompting the establishment of three separate crime scenes.
Superintendent Jason Joyce addressed the media on Thursday, stating that the vehicles were linked to the shooting. While he could not confirm if the incident was gang-related, he mentioned that authorities are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry. "What I can say is that it was a targeted attack... there were some people who witnessed the incident," he said. He expressed sympathy for both the victim's family and the witnesses of the shooting.
On Wednesday afternoon, footage from the crime scene showed police cordoning off the area. Officers were observed collecting evidence and photographing what appeared to be bullet casings. The investigation is ongoing as police seek to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the vehicles involved.
