PORT ANGELES — A small earthquake shook deep beneath the Olympic Peninsula Wednesday evening.

According to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, the magnitude 2.8 quake struck just before 6 p.m., about 38 miles south of Port Angeles. It was centered roughly 28 miles beneath the surface.

There are no reports of damage or injuries.

Seismologists say small quakes like this are common in the region and are usually not felt at the surface.
