The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reporting that that needs to expand its crime labs across the Volunteer State to keep up with increasing case loads. The agency is looking at expanding in Chattanooga.

TBI has three crime labs in Tennessee: Knoxville, Nashville, and Jackson. Those labs process and analyze thousands of pieces of evidence every year. Their goal is to bring justice to cases more swiftly. However, the agency explains that they are falling behind. The turnaround on evidence is taking longer because of the growing population and rise in crime across the state.

In a report released last month , TBI explains that the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations recommends a fourth lab be created:
