NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) -- Crime fighting continues to advance into a new age in Iberia Parish.

Sheriff Tommy Romero says due to a recent tax passage, more money is flowing into the department. He said he is making sure he's putting this funding to good use, expanding the department and modernizing it.

"Crime has decreased in Iberia parish since I've taken office," said Romero.

In 2024 Iberia Parish recorded a total of 472 crimes, in 2025 the total is currently 460.

"It doesn't seem like a whole bunch, but it's a downward trend," said Romero.

Romero says the landscape of Iberia Parish is changing.
