ATLANTA — The ripple effects from the federal government shutdown have reached air traffic controllers.

On Monday night, Hollywood Burbank Airport ceased operations for hours after air traffic controllers all called out, leaving the tower unmanned.

Transportation Security Administration officers and air traffic controllers are considered essential employees, meaning they are expected to continue working without pay during a government shutdown.

A spokesperson for Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport said the Atlanta airport has not yet experienced any impacts from the government shutdown.
