A three-car crash on Cape Cod left a man who was driving one of the vehicles in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Police began receiving 911 calls reporting the crash in Bourne shortly before 1:20 p.m., Bourne police said in a press release . Firefighters got to the scene on Route 6 between Edgehill and Herring Pond Roads first and quickly extinguished a fire in one of the SUVs.

Officers arrived soon after and discovered that a Red Hyundai Kona, a Blue Audi Q5 and a green BMW X1 had collided, causing heavy damage to all three, police said. First responders took everyone involved in the crash to local hospitals for treatment, but the Hyundai driver — a 23-year-old Carver man — had injuries that were life-threatening.
