Jennifer Lopez has recalled how she competed in a triathlon just six months after she gave birth to twins.

During an interview for the Las Culturistas podcast on Wednesday, the actress-singer described how she signed up for the athletic event a short time after she welcomed her children Max and Emme in February 2008.

Jennifer shares the twins with ex-husband, Marc Anthony.

Reflecting on her love of theatre, the entertainer recounted how she performed a rendition of I Am Woman from the musical Funny Girl at Marc's 40th birthday party in September 2008.

"I had ran a triathlon that day," she laughed, with co-hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers then asking the superstar where she finds her motivation. "When I was still pregnant, I was like, 'I'm going to do a triathlon when the kids (are born and) after I give birth to get back into shape.' I was like, 'I'm giving myself a goal.'"

Overall, Jennifer enjoyed the triathlon but found the swimming portion to be daunting.

"The swim is the crazy thing," the 56-year-old continued. "You go and you're looking at the ocean for the first time and you're like, 'I'm going swimming to the buoy. Not the first one. The third one? I'm sure there's sharks out there.'"

And while JLo has told Max and Emme about the triathlon, she confessed that the teenagers weren't so bothered.

"I want them to be proud of me. Now, I've told them the story. They couldn't care less. Like, 'OK, you ran a triathlon.' But, one day, maybe they'll think of it and go, 'Wow, my mom ran a triathlon six months after she had me,'" she smiled.

Jennifer is currently promoting her new movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Directed by Bill Condon, the musical thriller opens in U.S. cinemas on Friday.
