SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A South Los Angeles mother is taking legal action against the Los Angeles Unified School District after her 5-year-old son with autism was hit by a car outside his school.
"They were supposed to keep my son safe, but they didn't. They failed my child. They failed my child," his mother, Catherine Garcia, said.
Flanked by her attorneys, Garcia is suing LAUSD over what happened to her son with special needs last month outside Parmelee Avenue Elementary School.
Her son suffered serious injuries when he somehow left his kindergarten class and went out into the street, where he was hit by a car.
"I was there supporting them. I was there every day. I was there available for them. And I want justice for my child," Garcia said.
