It might still be the Halloween season, but local quilters and Mesa County are getting an early start on providing local foster kids a Merry Christmas.

Members of the Sunset Slope Quilt Guild gathered at the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Junction on Wednesday morning to donate 250 handmade stockings to the Mesa County Department of Human Services (DHS) Placement Department. These stockings will go to Mesa County children in the Foster Care Program.

The more than 150 guild members donate their supplies and time to craft the stockings each year. This is the 32nd year of the donation program. In that time, approximately 8,000 Christmas stockings have been sewn and donated.
