UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer asserted that India was well on track to become the world's third-largest economy by 2028, in what was seen as a seeming jibe at US President Donald Trump's claim that India's economy was "dead".

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi by his side, Starmer made no bones about the fact that India's growth story has been remarkable, with the country recently becoming the world's fourth-largest economy, surpassing Japan.

The UK Prime Minister, who began his speech by greeting the gathering in Hindi, reinforced that the country wanted to be partners on India's growth journey.
