Metal stocks led the market momentum on Thursday due to a combination of global and domestic tailwinds.
Sensex traded 273.17 pts or 0.33 per cent higher at 82,046.83 at 12.27 pm (hitting an intraday high of 82,160.85) after opening at 81,900. Nifty 50 gained 97.20 pts or 0.39 per cent to 25,143.35 (trading close to intraday high of 25,181.25).
Midcap outperformed the smallcap index. A majority of sectoral indices except consumer durables, auto, media and FMCG traded in the positive territory.
Nifty metal index rose over 2 per cent to trade at 10,339.35 after hitting an intraday high of 10,373.30 against the previous close of 10,136.55.
