The waiting list for routine hospital treatment in England has risen for the third month in a row, latest NHS figures show.
An estimated 7.41 million treatments were waiting to be carried out at the end of August, relating to 6.26 million patients, up slightly from 7.40 million treatments and 6.25 million patients at the end of July.
The list hit a record high in September 2023, with 7.77 million treatments and 6.50 million patients. New Feature

Some 1,416 patients in England had been waiting more than 18 months to start routine hospital treatment at the end of August, down slightly from 1,429 in July. A year earlier, in August 2024, the number stood at 3,335.
