**Evil GP Admits Second Murder Plot Against Mother's Partner**

Dr Thomas Kwan, a 54-year-old general practitioner, has confessed to a second murder plot aimed at his mother's partner, Patrick O'Hara, in a dispute over inheritance. The admission came during proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court, where Kwan acknowledged attempting to murder O'Hara between September 15, 2022, and January 21, 2024.

Kwan also admitted to administering a noxious substance, thallium, in bottles of wine sent to O'Hara. Prosecutor Peter Makepeace KC explained that not all bottles contained the poison, as this was a tactic to create a false sense of security for the victim. "If every single bottle delivered were laced, every single bottle would result in immediate illness and would have quickly brought the scheme to a halt," he stated.

The court heard that O'Hara had gifted one of the poisoned bottles to his son-in-law, Torquil Gundlach, before the plot was uncovered. Kwan, who is already serving a life sentence for a previous attempt on O'Hara's life, will face additional sentencing for this latest conspiracy.

Documents found on Kwan's computer revealed plans for a fictitious organisation called the "Northern Wine and Drinks Tasting Gentlemen's Club," which he used to send the tainted wine. The court was informed that at least two of the bottles contained thallium, while others were sent without poison to avoid detection.

Makepeace detailed the evidence, stating, "Analysis of the bottles found that two did contain poison. There is evidence that a third bottle provided led to illness consistent with thallium poisoning. The scheme to deliver these bottles was part of the attempted murder of Mr O'Hara."

Kwan's motivations were linked to financial gain, as he felt entitled to a larger share of his father's estate after his mother withdrew £1 million from a joint account prior to her divorce. Judge Mrs Justice Lambert noted that Kwan's actions were driven by a sense of injustice regarding his inheritance.

Even after his arrest, Kwan expressed concerns from prison about the compensation O'Hara might receive for the injuries inflicted by the poisoning. The court also revealed that Kwan had used his medical expertise to orchestrate the plot, even checking his mother's blood pressure before leaving O'Hara in distress.

Judge Lambert remarked on Kwan's obsession with money, highlighting that he had installed spyware on his mother's laptop to monitor her financial activities. Kwan is currently serving a 31-year and five-month sentence, with the possibility of parole only after serving two-thirds of his term.
