BRAINERD — Brainerd School Board members discussed Title IX and what an order from the federal government could mean for the district’s funding moving forward during a work session Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The discussion comes days after three of the board members — DJ Dondelinger, Stephanie Etterman and Randy Heidmann — signed a letter with more than 100 other school board members from across the state urging state leaders and the Minnesota State High School League to comply with the federal transgender athlete policy.

On Sept. 30, federal agencies warned Minnesota the state would have 10 days to comply with the federal policy barring transgender athletes from girls’ sports. That 10-day window ends Friday, Oct. 10.
