STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The United States observes Indigenous People’s Day alongside Columbus Day on Monday. And as a result, several city agencies will be closed or services will be available on a reduced basis.
The holiday recognizes the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ journey to America in 1492 and honors the history and culture of Native Americans and other indigenous people.
Here’s a look at the closings that may affect Staten Islanders Monday in observance of the holiday:
Staten Island Advance: The newspaper will publish.
Post Office: U.S. Post Offices are closed, and there is no mail delivery.
DMV: The state Department of Motor Vehicles is closed.
Finance : The financial markets are open.
Banks: Some are closed.
Government: Non essential federal , state ,
