An avid runner was diagnosed with a brain tumour after he heard a sudden "pop" in his head while training for the Manchester Marathon .

Evan Doyle, 36, was training in the summer of 2024 for the next edition of the 26.2 mile race when he began experiencing headaches and dizziness.

The logistics supervisor assumed it was eye strain from working on computers but, while on route to a race in July of last year, he experienced a strange sensation in his head and became too weak to walk. A scan revealed a tumour deep inside his brain.

Doctors conducted a biopsy which showed that he had a grade 4 pineoblastoma - a rare and aggressive form of cancer .

Evan underwent six weeks of radiotherapy to his brain and spine, followed by a 12-month course of chemotherapy.
