After nearly five months on the run, New Orleans jail escapee Derrick Groves has been captured, bringing an end to one of the city’s most alarming manhunts in recent years.
According to CNN , Groves, who fled the Orleans Justice Center in May alongside nine other inmates , was apprehended at an Atlanta residence in a coordinated operation involving the Atlanta Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Fair confirmed that Groves was taken into custody on Wednesday (Oct. 8), following weeks of intelligence work and interagency cooperation.
At the time of his escape, Groves had already been found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder for the 2018 Mardi Gras killings of two men.
