KINGSTON — City council gave its approval to a new climate change plan for its public utility.

Councillors signed off on the new climate action leadership plan Tuesday night during its regular council meeting.

The new climate leadership plan was built around four pillars, including reducing operational greenhouse gas emissions, supporting customers on their climate action journeys, exploring low carbon business ventures and integrating climate considerations in day-to-day decision-making processes.

“These pillars were designed to align with the city’s highest priority climate goals,” Lauran Scanlan, a project manager with Utilities Kingston, explained to city council.
