Seven students were taken to the hospital after a pepper spray incident at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach on Thursday.
Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said the incident began as an argument between two female students that happened off-campus on Wednesday.
The argument continued Thursday until one of the girls pulled out some pepper spray and sprayed it in a common area at the school on Northwest 6th Avenue, Hepburn said.
The seven students were hospitalized as a precaution but were expected to be okay.
Hepburn said the student who brought the pepper spray will be disciplined.
The school was also briefly placed on lockdown after a parent who came to the school didn't follow the rules of entering the school, Hepburn said.
