An unidentified passenger suffered serious injuries when the vehicle they were in hit a moose on Route 101 in Candia Wednesday night.

State Police said the same moose was hit by cars on both sides of the highway.

Troopers were called to Route 101 at 8:10 p.m. for a report of two cars hitting a moose. A Mazda 3 heading east on Route 101 hit the moose, which then crossed over to the westbound lanes and was hit by a Kia Sportage.

The moose had to be euthanized due to the severity of its injuries, State Police said in a press release Thursday morning.

An adult passenger in the Kia was taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester and treated for serious injuries. The driver of the Mazda was not injured, police said.
