A man was found dead on the campus of Independence High School in San Jose Thursday morning, according to officials.

Just before 7 a.m., officers responded to the school to assist with an unconscious adult, police said. Firefighters at the scene subsequently pronounced the adult dead.

Police said they were still in the early stages of the investigation and didn't have any other information to share. They did say there was no threat to the school or public safety.

The East Side Union High School District said the person found dead was not a student or an employee of the district.
