IGNACE — One driver has been charged after a collision involving two tractor-trailer units on Highway 17 in Dewant Township.

On Oct. 8, around 9:40 p.m., the OPP in Ignace were called to a scene following reports of a collision.

A media release issued by provincial police Thursday afternoon said the two tractor-trailer units were travelling in opposite directions when one entered the opposing lane, resulting in the crash.

Following the incident, police said fuel was spilled on the highway, prompting provincial environmental officials to attend and assess any impacts, as well as to oversee cleanup operations.

Highway 17 was closed temporarily, with one lane open to alternating traffic to facilitate the cleanup efforts, the media release stated.
