According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department initially fielded the call, which came in just before 7 PM on Friday, October 3rd, as a disturbance of some sort. Commotion was reported at 715 River Road in Standish. Deputies responded and found the body of a dead male inside the house when they arrived, so they called in the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit.

"The deceased male was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy. The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Matthew Hamilton of Cumberland
