Firefighters in bulletproof vests accompanied armed police into Heaton Park synagogue in the moments after last Thursday's terror attack , it has emerged.
A crew from Agecroft fire station in Salford were on their way to another 999 call when they saw Jihad Al-Shamie 's crashed car and a casualty outside the Crumpsall synagogue. They stopped to help and within minutes four firefighters in 'anti-ballistic equipment' were following two armed police into the synagogue.
Once inside they gave first aid to the injured worshippers and then evacuated the building. The details emerged as Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham , deputy mayor Kate Green and Manchester council leader Bev Craig gave an update to the press a week on from the attack.
