Longtime Hampden deputy perishes in Alaska hunting accident

SPRINGFIELD — A longtime deputy with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department died earlier this month after falling while goat hunting in Cordova, Alaska, according to that state’s Department of Public Safety.

On Oct. 1, authorities received word around 10:45 a.m. that John DeLuca, 67, had fallen from a mountainside, Queen’s Chair in Cordova, and was injured and not responsive.
