A Republican lawmaker on Thursday says he is nominating President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) is among several people, including Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY), commending Trump for his work to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas — saying he should receive the prize.
"No one deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more than Donald J. Trump, the Peace President. In nine short months, he’s negotiated seven peace deals, not including the recent announcement of a historic agreement between Israel and Hamas to release the hostages and end hostilities," Carter told Fox News.
"He has already saved countless lives, and the globe is forever indebted to him for his courageous pursuit of world peace," Carter said.
It's no secret that Trump wants the famous award. His obsession with winning a Nobel Peace Prize is reportedly now a "running joke" among diplomats at their regular gathering.
But with the decision just hours away, set to be announced early Friday, the timing might not be in his favor. And although he's pushed to secure a stop to the ongoing conflict, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has already made a decision.
