Oklahoma - Governor Kevin Stitt, a Republican from Oklahoma and the chairman of the National Governors Association, announced Thursday that he is against deploying National Guard troops across state lines without permission from the state that would receive them.

The position from the sitting Republican official was a rare challenge to President Donald Trump’s efforts to send National Guard troops to cities in states led by Democrats. This effort included deploying Texas Guard members to Chicago, where Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker are fighting the move in court. The administration is also attempting to send California troops into Portland, Oregon.
