A non-profit in Decatur canceled its 2025 Día De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Festival due to safety concerns.

Organizers said they made the decision “in light of the current national climate surrounding immigration status and safety concerns.”

“Our hearts are with everyone who looks forward to this beloved celebration,” said Jesse Gonzalez, Committee Chairman for Día De Los Muertos Decatur. “While this was not an easy choice, we believe it is the right one to ensure the safety and security of all participants.”

Día De Los Muertos Decatur committee is working on establishing a 501(c)(3) nonprofit status that will be known as Downtown Decatur’s Corazón y Cultura (Heart and Culture) and stated it will expand the mission to celebrate and share culture in the community.
