Former NBA star Paul Pierce was arrested for a DUI overnight in Los Angeles County, according to California Highway Patrol.
Officers say they found him asleep behind the wheel around 11:35 p.m. on the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley.
Lanes were closed for a separate crash near Lankershim, and when they went to reopen the roadway, officers found Pierce in a Range Rover SUV stopped in traffic lanes south of the crash scene.
That's when officers approached the SUV and found Piece asleep at the wheel, according to CHP.
CHP says he showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested.
Pierce retired from the NBA in 2017 and played for several teams, but was most known for his time with the Celtics.
Before his professional career, Pierce played basketball at Inglewood High School.
