A North Yorkshire mum, who had her right leg amputated following a horrific head-on collision, has received a settlement against the driver and is now issuing a warning about the dangers of reckless driving. Sharon Odell, a teaching assistant and mother of one, sustained life-altering injuries when her Volkswagen Up! was struck by a motorist attempting to overtake a bus and car on the A170 near Thornton-le-Dale on 17 April 2024.
The 55-year-old was airlifted to hospital where she remained in a coma for two-and-a-half weeks. Upon awakening from her coma, Sharon discovered that doctors had been compelled to amputate her right leg above the knee. She also underwent additional surgeries, including operations on her left leg and foot.
