Highway 16 commuters headed west through Gorst can expect traffic delays due to a car accident Thursday afternoon.

According to Trooper Katherine Weatherwax, Washington State Patrol District 8 Public Information Officer, westbound lanes on Highway 16 just west of Highway 166 are partially blocked due to a car ending up in a ditch.

The car's passenger sustained serious injuries, Weatherwax said, and is being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The exact time and details of the incident are unknown at this time, although Weatherwax's announcement was released around 3:30 p.m.

Weatherwax advises the public to slow down when approaching the area as WSP and other personnel are still on the scene investigating.
