JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) - Appalachian Books and Blessings started right after Hurricane Helene, aiming to create something positive for the community by bringing new and gently used books to areas impacted by the flood.
Brittany Smith, creator of Appalachian Books and Blessings, said her grandfather was the inspiration behind the Little Library.
"The group was in memory of my grandfather, who passed away in 2017," Smith said. "My grandfather wasn't able to read, so that really encouraged me. I wanted a way to remember his legacy and inspire other children to learn how to read."
Appalachian Books and Blessings has attended various community events, and Smith decided to expand the organization by adding a book shed.
