TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A Pima County program is giving incarcerated youth a second chance.
The Court Alternative Program of Education is cutting Arizona’s typical 40% recidivism rate roughly in half through comprehensive education and transition services. That’s according to the Pima County School Superintendent Dustin Williams.
Studies show prison education programs reduce re-arrests while boosting the economy and saving taxpayer money. With more than 3,000 kids enrolled in Arizona prison schools and taxpayers supporting more than 35,000 prisoners statewide, programs like CAPE offer hope for breaking the cycle of incarceration.
