Reports of loud explosions and gunfire emerged from Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on Thursday night. Local residents told the media that several blasts were heard near Abdul Haq Square in the city, and fighter jets were seen in the sky. Viral videos on social media show plumes of smoke and the sound of jet aircraft.

According to Pakistani media, the Pakistan Air Force carried out an airstrike in Kabul and killed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud. Mehsud had been leading the TTP since 2018 and was accused of operating in Afghanistan with the support of the Taliban.
