IDAHO, USA — Idaho State Police (ISP) say they are addressing staffing needs by extending the application for their next trooper training academy to Friday, October 17th.
At the Coeur d'Alene Office, ISP Sergeant Scotch tells KREM 2 they are down 11 troopers in Lewiston and nine in Coeur d'Alene. So the organization is making a call for more recruits.
"When I interviewed in 2012, I came over, across the country, for this interview. It was over 1,000 people testing and interviewing for this position," said Sergeant Justin Scotch. "Now we are struggling to get 100 or 200 applicants to apply."
Sergeant Scotch says a few reasons contribute to fewer applicants. First, not as many people are going into the law enforcement field. The cost of living in North Idaho and the housing market have
