The 2016 film Hacksaw Ridge tells the story of Desmond Doss, an unlikely war hero. A devout Christian and stringent member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, he wholeheartedly adhered to the commandment “thou shalt not kill,” which earned him status as a conscientious objector during World War II.
