A major sewer system upgrade has become contentious work as it requires tearing up a section of road that separates two Island municipalities, Courtenay and Comox.
The upgrade has been underway since April 2024 and the road runs through Comox Avenue and Comox Road, separating the two municipalities.
It also runs through the K’omoks First Nation.
The Comox Valley Regional District says the Sewer Conveyance Project is a multi-year construction project that will replace the pipes and upgrade the pump stations that move more than 14,000 cubic metres of raw sewage each day to the sewage treatment plant on Brent Road.
However the project is resulting in collateral damage.
