SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — Smithfield Public Schools is investigating an incident reportedly involving "hazing and antisemitic remarks" connected to students on the high school football team.
In a letter to families obtained by 12 News, Smithfield Superintendent Dr. Dawn Bartz assured that the matter is being taken "very seriously."
"Smithfield Public Schools maintains a zero-tolerance policy for hazing, bullying and harassment in any form," Bartz wrote. "These actions stand in direct opposition to our district's values and to the culture of respect, teamwork and inclusion we expect from every student and program. Our football team is no exception."
