AUSTIN, Texas — Families rallied outside Austin ISD headquarters on Thursday, as board members met for the first time since the district announced a proposal to close 13 campuses .

During the meeting's public comment period, at least 70 people signed up to speak about the district's consolidation plan, with some parents in tears over the possibility of their kids' schools closing, convinced this is not the answer.

Prior to the meeting, parents and students chanted and called on the district to stop the proposal. For almost an hour, they aired their frustrations with AISD, calling on them to be more responsive and do their part to preserve the schools.
