BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Officials are urging Louisianans to get their flu shots before the virus begins to spread widely.

As cold and flu season ramps up, there is one message across the state that officials are stressing, and that’s to get your flu shot.

Today, Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, along with other state officials, got their flu shots for this year. One key component of the flu shot, once someone gets the flu, it’s too late.

Lieutenant Governor Nungesser said he has gotten the shot every year since he was a kid and urges all Louisianans to do the same.

"Like I said, people die from it every year from the flu, especially the elderly, so it’s something you can avoid by just going out and getting the flu shot," said Nungesser.
